The dwarfs, those little heavy users
On occasion, Carlos Blanco commented on his blog and in public, as was determined to create Pequejuegos , a site dedicated to children born of the observation of your child's behavior on the Internet and see how websites rate Disney , despite his undoubted quality, were not what his son was looking for. Thus was born years ago a very successful site and a target set last month printed nearly 15,000,000 page views on data from Nielsen.
The case is an exception, the company average, and including our own, despite being an interesting niche content not created primarily for young audiences, a strategic blunder. The merit of Charles is to observe, interpret and deduce the attitude of his young son in front of a computer a market opportunity.
Not surprising to think that children have become increasingly active consumers. Active in the sense that they actively involved on the purchasing decisions of the family. Some researchers say it is due to the predominance of family model "democratic" in which all decide. Them, small large consumers have great influence on the decisions that were formerly at the place of adults. I do not think it is due to a "democratization" of the family position. For me it is because parents are less visible and replace this absence with the child gifts and allowing greater market access. Experts speak of a compensation that puts parents in the place of all but presence providers .
For this reason, the publicity has focused not only as a target for the sale of products for them, but also as intermediaries in purchasing decisions of their parents. Adults have to ask where we were or what we were doing when the big names in the line bellow strategies tell us what to buy through our children. Obviously not ask our children for advice when buying a laptop, but possibly if we do breakfast for shopping or movie you downloaded from emule, oops, I meant to rent the weekend. ![]()
Today children can choose between the various proposals in addition to regular advertising (cinema, television, radio, publications) because internet has arrived .... but also in other areas such as school. In the U.S. there are even educational materials sponsored by companies with interests in young audiences. Something that does not happen in many other countries and may even still be ethically questionable.
You not only offer you food and toys, mobile phones today are added, logos and ringtones, iPods, etc. are some products that have a clear target segments child to behave like a toy or websites where more information is on cartoons, games and merchandising. The brands that formerly circulated only the movie and television screens (like Disney and other children's entertainment industries) are positioned on the Internet today very strong in this segment.
New generations are digital natives unlike us, and can not conceive of life without the media, which as it happens to many of us. They know the pre-digital world and internet is now part of their lives. Parents should make sure their children understand what content is commercial and what is not .
The number of children connected to the Internet and its influence on prescribing habits and consumption is not a number we should disregard: 7 out of 10 Spanish children using the Internet and 6 out of 10 have phones. Internet is used as a tool in school, but also email, IM and social networks are part of the technological habits of children. On the other hand, we must not forget that mobile phones aimed at children, began as a "gift" to maintain a remote contact, and this fact brings us back to the beginning: the lack of parental presence.
We are in a consumer society that has increasingly small but experienced restless, insistent informed. New technologies are largely responsible for this new figure as a child but ... the parents.
