A few laughs with Cuil.com
Last week many blogs commented on the release of Cuilo. It seems that the name means something like "knowledge" in Gaelic (come on, for frikis ranging from intellectual elite).
As almost everyone knows this is a search engine created by former engineers from God, and all the credit attached to it is that, that when ex-Google engineers are trained to improve presupposes Google. Come on, as if they were 10 engineers from Ferrari, are set to manufacture cars and assumes that they will be better than Ferrari.
Google was born to the general public at a time of very special market, in which the searches were abandoned too, too much advertising presence and marked by the SPAM without the big search engines are interested in combating it. In fact, to sort their indexes, they simply forgot their robots and spiders and focused on organizing directories (Yahoo, Lycos, Terra, Ya.com) containing links but few were reviewed by people who "had faith" in its quality. That was the moment of opportunity that Google revolutionized the market.
The fact is that I have spent a Cuil the time it deserves; about 3-4 minutes. Those 3-4 minutes my first impression is that it is not spent in design .... that does not make sense to the home page in black and white results ... which brings little, come on, the more I see is the new way to show results in 3 columns. Surely rise as a genius and use it ... at least until it disappears

What I would like to know is my "why" has arrived. Even if it were truly innovative and improve the search experience is not the case, it appears Google has a dominant position so that these initiatives will make it fairer and hold.
Come on, as launch a cola drink in Spain to compete with Coca Cola on the grounds that staff behind the product is Coca Cola Company and is richer than the original.
Let's see if anyone bites and buys it .... I fear that these or not eat grapes ...

@ Julianp, invitations are sent to open the beta in late August. Now we are even in pre-beta to 100 people.

It is not very risky to open a Yes.fm also exist a consolidated Last.fm, just because its founders are ... who are they?.

CUIL is the snake in the summer. It is a search engine, which adds nothing with a bad design, and gives results that do not really relevant for searches. After all the buzz will go away.
@ Pepe, if risky, but not by LAst.fm; the music market is huge, but because of piracy.
There is no question of who are the founders, but that team, project, investment, and product have reached agreements in these 14 months

Well, you should respect the projects unrelated to respect as much as your own. The founders of Cuilo could respond using your own words ....
Alejandro, of course it is risky to mount Cuil, but not by Google, the market for organizing the world's information is immense, and perhaps our goal is not to compete with Google, but to prove that its technology crawls and indexes the information is improved.

@ Pepe, just a shade. It is one thing to throw a few laughs and I like a bluf. Another not respect it. I think there is a difference in that, I respect everybody.
I think this is a bluff and I think it is a market where there is no place to compete. The time will remove or reasons, but I find that, a bluf, and if esoty wrong over the medium term, Pepe, do not forget to remind me on the blog and thus be recognized.

I think that people should not underestimate this job, anyway I think it's a good initiative. But, there are things we still do not understand this search, first using the algorithm, so far I have not seen a paper with the investigation has been done and that technologies have been used in information retrieval.
On the subject of design, whether new and original but what should matter is responsible, as it is structured and is improving as the search on the Internet. That is what matters most. We must recognize that they have a difficult road those of Cuilo, but that does not mean impossible.
And I disagree with you Alejandro, I think if that is a good time to leave, Google has supremacy, yes, but also has many detractors who start Harte's giant and the way they act .. and demanding a quality alternative. Cuil do not know if it will just come out, has yet to prove it. But I think if anyone can do that is at this moment, I think it is Cuil, even more than Microsoft or Yahoo.
They have a significant investment behind them, different algorithm, and human value of time "as they say" .. more pages indexed by Google .. So .. Why not give it a chance, as we did at the time with Google?
