My first photo

Juan Curto, apart from good friend is an expert in photography. Some years ago we agree together on a Master of Management of Art Galleries in Iart. Yo, possibly sooner or later opened a gallery, but that was John and I said a few months, very brave, was thrown to the river by opening a gallery specializing in photography, technique less popular and less market that the painting and sculpture today. Today we have spent a couple of years and his room, Dark House, is indisputably a landmark in photography in Spain, participating in national and international fairs.
I wanted to put in the hands of John to buy my first photo. And I offered several alternatives. Me, I enjoy and I understand a bit of contemporary painting, I recognize to be a total zero to the left in photography and in these cases is imperative left advise and learn from a professional.
I finally opted for this photo of a South African artist who was unknown to me named Johann Ryno de Wet. The picture is worrying and of great format and I'm very happy with my first purchase of a picture. I thought you would enjoy it, the title "The Guardian" (2006).

I'm glad you enjoy the photo. Regarding Jordi, did not want to fail to respond. The picture is much less expensive than painting for two reasons, it is half serial (almost always) and even at this stage of the film is considered an art as "minor".
When you buy a photo artist and the gallery has never guarantee that no more photos as those laid down in the editing eg 5, 10 or even 25 (the cap to be regarded as a work of art). I assure you that there is no gallery or artist who mislead them offset selling more pictures of the established beforehand. I've been collecting more than 10 years and never gave me the case.
The "negative" that increasingly is a "digital file" is never sold to the buyer nor the reproduction rights to pertenenecen the artist.
As for secondary market liquidity as it understood that there are obviously depending on the artist and his curriculum. Upper auction has been able to get to a million euros for a photo of Jeff Wall or Andreas Gursky.

I buy when I am not fixed in the case of photography, painting, video ... and not on the nationality of the artist. I believe that each piece has its format and if you love the content is what we must always take precedence.
Jordi, I never buy art (in any format) thinking about whether or not it has the liquidity or if you are going to win or lose money. If you do that is very possible that always miss. If you do it with passion always win.
